1) The Consumer Demo CD-ROM consists of a MacroMedia Director and Apple Script interface and demos. The CD-ROM has been designed to run in the following configuration:
MINIMUM: Macintosh Quadra, 8MB RAM, 256 color monitor, 300 (double) speed CD-ROM Drive, System 7.0.X, QuickTime 2.0. (on 8MB, System Software must use < 2.7 MB RAM.)
PREFERRED: Power Macintosh, 8+MB RAM, 256 color monitor, 300 (double) speed CD-ROM Drive, System 7.5, QuickTime 2.0.
2) Your Monitor(s) should be set to 8 bit/256 color mode for optimum performance.
3) For best performance, quit any other open applications before launching from the CD.
4) Run the Consumer Demo Installer before launching the "Consumer Demos!" File. This will ensure that you have all the necessary system files to properly run the demos. After the installer places files in your System Folder you will have to restart your computer.
5) If you have problems or questions about any of the demos, you should review any "Read Me" files that are provided with the demos (not all demos have "Read Me" files!) Some of the "Read Me" files will tell you to "remove any system files that are not necessary for running this demo". If you wish to do this, you should be aware of the files that are needed to run the Consumer Demo interface. The necessary Extensions files are the following: QuickTime 2.1, SoundManager 3.1, AppleScript, Apple Multimedia Tuner, Apple CD-ROM 5.1.1, QuickTime PowerPlug (for PowerPC's only). The necessary Control Panels are the following: Sound 8.0. These files should not be removed.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
In the opening screen of the "Dark Forces" demo, there is an option button that allows you to "Quit all open apps". DO NOT choose this button if you are running the demo from the Consumer Demo interface! This button will quit all open applications including the Finder and AppleScript, which is used by the Consumer Demo application. If you select this button, you will have to re-launch the Consumer Demo interface after running the Dark Forces demo.

USING THE EVANGELISM INTERFACE
**Important notes: when you click the "Play Demo" button, this launches a file "external" to the main interface. To return to the main interface, press Command-Q to quit the current demo (Command-period will NOT do the trick!). Some of the demos have "quit" buttons on screen; this will also work to exit the current demo and return to the main interface. Some of the demo folders have "Read Me" files that explain details of how to use the demos. The demo folders can be found at the following locations:
"Consumer Demo CD:Consumer Demo CD ƒ:*Demos:Entertainment…"
"Consumer Demo CD:Consumer Demo CD ƒ:*Demos:Home Learning…"
then inside of the appropriate demo folder, look for the Read Me file.
Following is an overview of the 3 main screens:
**From any screen, press Command-Q to quit the interface.
1) MAIN MENU: Click the buildings labeled "Entertainment" and "Home Learning" to go to the appropriate screens. You can always click the "Main Menu" button to return to this screen. Hold the shift key down and click the Apple logo to turn the music off. To change languages, click on the English, French, German, or Japanese flags. Click the Apple logo to view credits.
2) HOME LEARNING AND ENTERTAINMENT SCREENS: Click on the CD picons to see a representational image and description of the appropriate demo. Click on the "Play Demo" button to play the demo. The "Developer List" button will open a window with a list of information regarding the Developers who have contributed demos to this CD. The "Resellers List" button will open a window with a list of Resellers to contact if you wish to purchase one of the CD's. Click the "Help" button for context sensitive help on how to use this CD.

TROUBLESHOOTING
1) If you get an error "-108" when you try to launch a demo from the main interface, this means you are too low on memory to open the application or file. Here are a few suggestions on how to remedy this problem:
- You need a machine with at least 8MB of total RAM and 4.4 MB of available RAM to launch most of the demos from the main interface. If you don't have this much RAM, you may still be able to open the demos from the CD-ROM directly. Quit the Main interface, open the "Demos" folder and double click the demo icon that you wish to run.
- A few of the demos require 4 or 5 MB of RAM, so even if you do have 8 MB of RAM in your system, it may be necessary to quit the main interface and open the correct folder(s) within the "Demos" folder and double click the demo. The following demos require this:
- Quit any other open applications to free up RAM for the interface and presentations, and try again.
- Restart your Mac. Some applications do not properly dispose of the RAM they use after you quit them, and some RAM may thus be temporarily unavailable.
- Make sure you are pressing "Command-Q" (NOT command-period) to close the demos you launch from the interface - otherwise, the application remains open and hogs your RAM.
- Set your monitors to 256 colors
- Remove some fonts and/or extensions from your system and restart so that your system uses less RAM.
2) If your CD seems to be playing unusually slowly:
-Make sure your CD-ROM drive is at least a CD300 (the older 150 CDSC and CDSC+ drives are slower and will not perform as well)
-if you have a server volume mounted, dismount it
-If you have file sharing turned on, turn it off temporarily so that network activity will not interrupt your CD playback performance.
-Turn off any programs that run in the background, like screenSavers & QuickKeys.
-Make sure that QuickTime 2.0 is installed.
-Check your SCSI connections & termination
3) Fonts do not display properly
-The fonts that are necessary are on the CD in the "Apps and System Software" folder. Quit all applications and copy them to your System Folder
4) Colors do not display properly
-Set your monitor(s) to 256 colors
5) The system won't let me install any extensions.
-Your System Folder protection is turned on. You will need to turn it off before proceeding; after you have copied the files, you can turn the protection back on. To turn off System Folder protection (under System 7.5), use the "General Controls" control panel (prior to version 7.5, use the "Performa" control panel.)
